COSTUME AND MAKEUP

PROTAGONISTS
character 1 : samantha jones
Samantha is one of the three friends. Also a very curious character and encourages her friends to go to the cemetery. Her costume is very casual and typical adolescent clothing. We decided not to use the typical , ditzy and superficial female character which is usually what the female victims are stereotyped as in horror movies. That is why her costume consists of mostly black and is not dramatic and vibrant.

CHARACTER 2: DAVID
character 3: James CHUNG
James is the serious and smart one of the group. Who thinks before he acts and worries for everyone. he grew up with his parents in a small town and currently goes to high school. he meets with his friends and saw the news report of the soldier. he urges the friends not to go and continue investigating the deaths , but they ignore him and argue that it will be fun. the adidas trainers represent that he is an adolescent who like most , like to have trendy trainers. The glasses represents his intelligence and wisdom a common accessory used to connote these traits in people.

Inspiration
This is a scene from nightmare on elm street. In this scene the girl wakes up from the nightmare with three knife marks on her arm. It looks very realistic , with excessive blood used. This is what I tried to recreate using tutorials to help me do this.
|
This is an example of a slasher trailer and in this trailer there are scenes where blood is covering the victims face and body. In our trailer we will be using fake blood on one of our victims to signify the slasher element of the trailer.
|
This is a tutorial on how to make wounds. This is a common wound used in slasher movies and the weapon is a knife. This involved using latex , fake blood and tissue paper. This was very easy to follow and I was able to use this to make my own.
|
This is another tutorial on how to make wounds on the face. I found this easy to follow and this inspired me to do a cut on the neck also for practice. Latex , fake blood , tissue paper and makeup was used to achieve these effects.

SLASHER MOVIES
Movie: Halloween. In this movie the main character is anonymous , he has a mask on to cover his identity. This makes the character mysterious and more scary. The antagonists costume is a boiler room costume and is dark coloured.
Movie: Friday 13th. The antagonist has an identity (a name) but we cannot visually see its face. This is a common theme in horror movies. However this antagonist is dressed in tatty , old and destroyed clothing which makes the antagonist stand out as all the victims are well dressed. It can also connote that the antagonist is crazy. The victims are young adults and are casually dressed , which is the approach we are going for our victims costume.
|
Movie: My Bloody Valentine. In this trailer the antagonist is anonymous as we cannot see their face. They have an iconic weapon , which is an axe. Their costume is similar to a black jumpsuit and he wears a gas mask. In this movie there is a scene whereby the antagonist is in an underground tunnel this could symbolise the trenches during the world wars , which could explain the gas mask the character has. This shows that the charachters costume does have to correlate with the setting.
Movie: Scream. In this trailer the antagonist is wearing a black cloak and black gloves. black is a common colour used for the costume of antagonists. this is because black connotes mystery and evil. their identity is anonymous as they are masked and we cannot see them through it. The costume of the antagonist links with the film title "scream" as the mask is a man screaming.

PROPS
Gurkha Knife
The kukri is effective as a chopping and slashing weapon. Because the blade bends towards the opponent, the user need not angle the wrist while executing a chopping motion. This gives the kukri a penetrative force disproportional to its length. The design enables the user to inflict deep wounds and to penetrate bone. The slasher genre involves using weapons that are sharp , quick to use and dangerous such as knives , axes , machetes and so on. In our trailer we will be featuring a gurkha knife as our iconic weapon for the antagonist as he is an ex gurkha soldier.

A camera was used for one of the victims. As they used this camera to take images of the woods. This was James Chung camera. During the course of the film footage of the antagonist would have been seen on the camera.

MAKEUP
These are the attempts of scars i created. it was quite difficult to make them look realistic even though i used the right equipment (latex , tissue , blood , foundation and powder). i think with more practice they would have come out better i used the tutorials mentioned above to help me create these scars.
